Okapi calf born at Cincinnati Zoo, a significant birth for endangered species

Good News Notes:

“An okapi calf was born Monday at the Cincinnati Zoo, zoo officials said.”

“The calf — whose sex has not been determined — was born around 4 p.m. and was standing within 45 minutes.

The calf was born to third-time mother Kuvua.”

“Native to Africa’s dense Ituri Forest, the okapi is a shy relative of the giraffe. Like the giraffe, the okapi uses its long tongue to pluck leaves and buds from trees.”
