There are 23 species of vultures in the world. However, as adaptable as the birds are, 14 of those species are considered threatened or endangered.

Vultures help prevent the spread of disease from rotting animals since they are able to feed on carcasses so rotted that other animals would become sick from them.

Vultures’ senses and abilities are being studied in consideration of their use in finding bodies from crimes.
