“Spring is officially here and NYC Parks is calling on Staten Islanders to get their hands dirty to help grow a greener city by volunteering at tree planting events in April.
Earth Day last year was unlike any other as the world shifted to digital celebrations amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Now, with its 51st anniversary set for April 22, Staten Island residents can get involved to help protect the environment.
The Parks Department is holding free tree-planting events next month, starting Friday. In addition to planting trees, you will be trained in proper planting techniques, and if time allows, you will also help install tree guards.
Come dressed in sturdy boots or shoes, long pants, and clothing that can get dirty. Please be sure to wear a face mask and bring your own water bottle.
“Trees provide so many benefits to New Yorkers, such as improved air and water quality, reduced pollution, and lower energy costs,” the Parks Department said about its events.”
