“A fund supporting Baltimore restaurants now has nonprofit status, organizers announced Friday.
The Famous Fund, which has raised more than $375,000 has partnered with former Baltimore Ravens kicker Matt Stover and his Players Philanthropy Fund. The Players Philanthropy Fund will serve as the umbrella organization for the Famous Fund, managing compliance and accounting needs, including tax receipts.
The Famous Fund was founded by Jimmy’s Famous Seafood co-owner John Mindakis. Spurred by Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy’s Barstool Fund, Mindadakis leveraged his existing relationship with Portnoy to highlight the struggles of Baltimore restaurants.
‘I’m really proud of the work we’ve done & the lives we’ve been able to impact so far,’ Minadakis said in a statement. ‘Our work is just getting started though, even with some of the restrictions being lifted.’
The Famous Fund is chaired by former Baltimore police spokesman T.J. Smith.”
