“San Antonio-based USAA is donating $30 million to assist military members, veterans and their families grappling with the fallout from the coronavirus pandemic.
Announced today, the donation — the largest one-time philanthropic contribution in the insurance and financial services company’s 98-year history — will go to 24 organizations helping individuals and families in San Antonio and elsewhere as part of a new Military Family Relief Initiative.
‘It’s a new USAA philanthropic effort that’s focused on providing support to military families and service members who have been financially impacted by COVID — whether it’s financial insecurity, job loss, support for military children,’ said Harriet Dominique, USAA’s senior vice president of corporate responsibility.
USAA has committed $20 million to U.S. military aid societies and nonprofit organizations, allowing them to make no-interest loans and give grants to help with financial emergencies, virtual schooling costs and college educational expenses.”
