Amazing story of survival: WellSpan doctor saves man after 500-foot hiking fall

Good News Notes:

“It’s an amazing story of survival. A York County doctor was in the right place at the right time to save a man after a 500-foot fall while hiking on Mount Washington in New Hampshire.

‘This was my first time in the back country,’ said snowboarder Ian Brown.

It’s a first time with memories that will last a lifetime. Brown and some buddies were hiking up Tuckerman’s Ravine at Mount Washington in search of some lingering June snow. His course changed direction in the blink of an eye.

‘I don’t even remember slipping itself. I just remember being like, oh we are falling now, great,’ Brown said.”

“‘I thought this is going to be really bad and possibly a mortality,’ said Dr. Eric Bowman, WellSpan York Hospital Emergency Physician.

Nearby, Dr. Bowman and a friend were trekking up the mountain to ski. The sounds of the fall echoed throughout the mountain.

‘You can see Ian disappear into the shrubbery where the boulder field is and we heard a thud and we think we heard you yell,’ he said.”
