“Disregarding 44-degree ocean waves, more than 60 swimmers dashed into the surf to boost a deserving local charity during the 19th Annual Atlantic Plunge at Gooch’s Beach in Kennebunk on Jan. 4.
Paying $25 to join the group of plungers, participants ranged in age from 5 to 80 and as in years past, they used the event as a way to launch a new year and demonstrate their commitment for Caring Unlimited, York County’s only domestic violence resource center. Based in Sanford, Caring Unlimited was formed in 1977 and provides support and safety planning services to individuals whose lives are affected by domestic violence and abuse.
According to Susan Giambalvo, Caring Unlimited executive director, the Atlantic Plunge is the second-largest public fundraiser for the organization and helps to draw attention to the plight and problems for those affected by domestic violence in York County.”
