“I had the occasion to stay at the Family House across the street from Shadyside Hospital while my husband underwent open-heart surgery. While there, they hosted a ‘Secret Santa’ dinner for the guests.
The gourmet dinner was complete with appetizers, china dishes, silver flatware, cloth napkins, crystal and delicious desserts. We were all served at our tables and got to sit with and meet other families.
The Pittsburgh Opera Singers performed Christmas carols, and we even had a visit from Santa. I saw many guests with tears in their eyes while the carols were being sung.
The next day, I stopped at the front desk to ask for the address of the ‘Secret Santa’ so I could send a thank-you note. I was told he does this every year and just wants to remain anonymous — but wait — ‘we have a gift for you.’ The receptionist handed me a Christmas card signed ‘Secret Santa’ with $25 in cash.”
