Almost 8,000 pounds of trash fished from Haywood waterways in 2019

Good News Notes:

“Litter cleanups organized by Haywood Waterways Association removed 7,885 pounds of trash from the county’s creeks and streams in 2019, said HWA Project Assistant Christine O’Brien.”

“Contributing to the garbage collection were 268 volunteers, who participated in 26 cleanups between January and November, pulling 40 tires out of Haywood’s water as part of the nearly four tons of litter, O’Brien said.”

“Because the mountains of Haywood County contain headwaters that flow downhill to other communities in other states, there is a responsibility to keep the water as clean as possible, O’Brien said.”
