Municipalities saving on electricity costs thanks to Elgin entrepreneur’s community solar project — a first in Illinois

Good News Notes:

“Ken “Bucky” Buckman doesn’t deny it: Spending $3.7 million to install a solar panel array on top of his industrial building in Elgin was a risk.”

“But now that Buckman’s solar system is providing lower-cost, renewable energy to municipal buildings in nine towns, including in his hometown of Elgin, he can bask in its success.”

“The installation of the panels began in 2017 and took about six months to complete, said Everton Walters, CEO of WCP Solar, which did the installation work. The hundreds of 6-by-3.4-feet panels can generate 1.2 megawatts of energy annually.”
