A Bizarre New Species of Mollusk Discovered

Though not new to the planet, this strange little mollusk has just been discovered in the Philippines by scientists. The locals are already familiar with the creature. For the scientists, he is a new type of shipworm. However,he acts completely different than the rest of his kind. While most shipworms feed on submerged wood (hence, the name), this guy’s diet is limestone. That’s right. He eats rocks. What’s more, after he’s digested them, they exit his body as sand. Oh, and as he does this, he is forming channels in his wake that will eventually affect the flow of the water in the river he inhabits. That’s a big impact for a creature small enough to fit in your hand.
